The Dietary Guidelines for Americans describe a healthy diet as one that:
• Is high in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products
• Includes lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, legumes, nuts, and eggs
• Is low in saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, salt (sodium), and added sugars.
The Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2010 remain the current edition until the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2015 are released.
